You will learn the fundamentals of surfing, surf safety, and be standing up in no time. You will also gain a better understanding of 'soul surfing' where you get to appreciate and respect your environment and the people around you. This is a professional surf lesson carried out by some of New Zealand’s leading instructors who have taught many before you.

The day normally starts with a flat-water session where we teach you how to paddle your board efficiently, sit on your board, Eskimo roll, duck dive and a few safety drills.

After we have done our flat-water session it's lunchtime and we sit down to discuss the potential hazards at surf beaches and how to avoid them.

The topics covered are:

• Rips, holes and undertows, how to identify them and how to get out of them.
• Weather pattens and how waves are formed.
• The difference between off shores, on shores and afternoon sea breezes.
• The different types of waves and how the tide can affect them.

After lunch it's back in the water and the instructor works closely with you to make you feel comfortable and reach that ultimate goal of standing up!
