Kayak out to Rangitoto Island and climb to the top of Auckland’s dominant volcano. The views of Auckland City and the Hauraki Gulf from the summit are outstanding. This is Auckland's classic kayak trip!

St Heliers Beach (about 10 minutes from the city centre) is where you will meet your guide for your briefing and instruction. You'll be outfitted with a paddle jacket (wind and waterproof), sprayshirt and buoyancy vest.

The double kayaks you will use are stable and easy to paddle. We head away from the beach around 10.00am and paddle across to Rangitoto Island, a distance of around 5 kilometres, which takes about 1.25 hours at an easy pace.

You enjoy a lovely morning tea on arrival at the island before the scenic hour long climb to the summit and lunch (BYO).

You explore some lava caves on the return walk before heading back to St Heliers Beach.

The distance is fine for novice kayakers and we maintain the highest safety standards possible.

Venue:

Rangitoto Island is located in the Waitemata Harbour (Auckland's Harbour). We depart from St Heliers Beach, approximately 10 minutes from the CBD.

Session Length

You will be picked-up at 9.30am and dropped-off around 4.30pm.Trips run four to five times weekly in the summer months, on demand.

Guidelines:

You must be at least 13 years of age and of reasonable fitness to enjoy this experience.

Numbers:

The price quoted is for one person. There will be a minimum of four and a maximum of 16 participants and one instructor for every eight clients.

Weather:

Rain and wind affect this experience. If the weather is not suitable for your kayaking trip we will call you to postpone to a later date or cancel. If you have any doubts about the activity going ahead, please call us.

Other Info:

Our staff are qualified to 'Sea Kayak Operators Association Guide' level or higher. All have outdoor first aid qualifications and are very experienced kayakers. We use excellent equipment that is well maintained. Please bring your own lunch.
