Imagine quietly paddling across a glassy calm sea with the lights of Auckland city as your backdrop... This evening kayak tour will take you to Browns Island, a small volcanic island close to Auckland city. You'll enjoy a picnic supper served on the summit, plus the novelty of kayaking at night.
St Heliers Beach (about 10 minutes from the city centre) is where you will meet your guide for your briefing and instruction. You'll be outfitted with a paddle jacket (wind and waterproof), sprayskirt and buoyancy vest.
The double kayaks you will use are stable and easy to paddle. We head away from the beach around 6.00pm and paddle around Achilles Point and across to Browns Island which takes about 1.25 hours at an easy pace.
We land at Crater Bay at the back of the island and take a short but steep 10-minute walk to the summit to watch the sun set over Auckland whilst enjoying a picnic supper.
After the sun has disappeared, the kayaks are fitted with night-lights and you are each given a high powered flashlight. Paddling at night is an amazing feeling, and the lights of Auckland make a great backdrop as you make your way back to St Heliers where you arrive around 10.30pm.
The distance is fine for novice kayakers and we maintain the highest safety standards possible.
