Fly Fishing Guided Tour For 2 - Half Day
Embark on a Fly Fishing Trip with one of our specialist guides. Our guides have the local knowledge and expertise to show the competent angler where and how to fulfill their dreams, but they also have the patience and desire to see the novice fisherman enjoy and learn from their fishing experience.
Clad in chest waders, you can nymph or wet fly fish to your heart's content and when your arm tires you can stand and enjoy the amazing scenery that surrounds you.
The trout can be sighted in the crystal clear streams, challenging your skills with the dry fly, nymph or light spinning tackle. The thrill of seeing a big fish rising to take a tiny dry is an experience not to be missed!
On the streams and rivers 'catch and release' is the practice, however there are still some great photo opportunities and a wonderful day to be had.
So when is the best time to go fly fishing in Taupo?
- November and December offer some great spring and early summer fishing.
- January and February are the warmest summer months with good dry fishing options galore around the region.
- In March and April the dry fly begins to slow down, especially towards April, but catches will still occur if the conditions are right. Mostly you will get some great nymph fishing. Fish are in peak condition and some of the biggest fish of the season can be caught in the local rivers surrounding Lake Taupo.
- In May the autumn fishing is at its best. Migratory runs start on the Lake Taupo tributaries. There are some very big trout to be caught as the temperature drops but these are generally very pleasant days.
- From June to October the winter fishing mode comes into play. It is during this time that the trout are migrating for spawning. Fishing techniques require a heavier nymph or sinking line but you can expect to catch some trout in excellent condition.
