Take control during this introductory training flight and experience flying from the pilot's seat! During this flight over Wanaka you will see unforgettable beauty and stunning views of Mount Aspiring World Heritage Park and Lake Wanaka.

The adventure begins with a briefing on how the dual controls work. Then taxi out to the runway and you take off. Your experienced guide invites you onto the controls and shows you how to turn the plane from side to side and then gives you the opportunity to have a go yourself! You can fly as little or as much as you would like too, all under the experienced guidance of your flying guide. No previous flying experience is necessary.

Your flight takes you over the awe-inspiring Matukituki Valley, spectacular glacier views, snow-capped mountains and Mount Aspiring itself, a breathtaking and total scenic experience! Your flight guide will share his knowledge of the area and flight expertise throughout the experience.

The standard route takes in Glendhu Bay, Mount Aspiring, Rob Roy Glacier, Matukituki River mouth, North Branch Matukituki, Minaret Burn, Mou Waho Island, Stephenson’s Arm and Lake Hawea.

This introductory flight for 50 minutes, is easy, safe and the best way to see Wanaka!

Wanaka Airport – 5 minute drive from Wanaka Township.

Session Length

Please allow 1hr 10 minutes for this experience. This includes 50 minutes of flight time and 5 minutes of pre-flight briefing. We are open 365 days per year, and offer flight times to suit your schedule.

Guidelines:

The minimum age is 12 years. Anyone under 18 years requires written consent from a parent or guardian. The maximum weight is 135kg. You must be able to communicate in English.

Spectators:

You are more than welcome to have spectators, on the ground, during your experience.

Weather:

This experience can be affected by weather. If it is unsafe to fly, you can reschedule. We will contact you as soon as we know we will not be able to fly for your flight session.

This flying experience is an amazing opportunity to see stunning scenery while flying the plane yourself! You will be flying a Tecnam Light Sports Aircraft P92 Echo Super. A DVD is available for purchase of your flight experience. The DVD is given to you on the day.
